"the whirl islands"
i was making websites back in 2004, back when freewebs.com was a thing (it's since rebranded to webs). well looking through an old backup cd, i managed to reboot the html file i had there. terrifying!
you can view the mess here. below is a bit of a dissertation as to uh. what is going on here:
- we'll start from the top: the header link was broken, linking to a freewebs site under "rainbowchan". that was definitely me
- said picture was found in the folder, so i reuploaded it here
- apparently wanted to be some kind of pokemon fansite? sure. i didn't have anything new to offer really, besides badly recolored sprites and tips and tricks taken from other websites.
- adorable spelling errors typical from a well read and well meaning 12 year old.
- november 7th, 2004
- the color scheme is an interesting one, that i did pick out to paint my childhood bedroom some time later.
- NONE of the internal links on the left hand sidebar work, that's fine. don't expect anything to go anywhere
- the "affiliates" are broken. "Poke me I dare you" leads nowhere, so does "S.M.M. Friends"
- the OTHER links though...
- miraculously, Cave of the Dragonflies still exists. i went and found a new button to replace the broken one, and i think it's the same one i used before: the articuno one.
- serebii.net forums also still exist, although i kept more tabs on that through the years.
- i couldn't tell you what "Richie Site" was supposed to be; there's no actual link there
- Pokemon Elite 2000 redirects to the webmaster's twitter...so that's definitely dead. it's where i used to get all my sprites
- i used a template from CotD apparently; probably a generator. the css is embedded in the html and not through a stylesheet.
at any rate, it's good to reflect on some of the shit you were doing in your adolescence. it's good for your constitution.
